A beautiful glass of fine wine is more than just a hobby and line of work for Roka Akor’s Regional Manager Steve Tindle. He sees his passion in wine as an opportunity to learn about his guests and explore cultures. It is Tindle’s humility to always be open to learn more that has earned Tindle his title as Regional Manager just two years after starting as General Manager of Roka Akor Chicago in June 2012.

Tindle caught the wine bug early in his hospitality career, and thanks to having the opportunity to work under knowledgeable and motivational mentors, Steve completed his wine educator studies, receiving Certified Sommelier status with the Court of Masters and Society of Wine Educators. One of the major milestones at the start of his career was being on the opening team for Chicago’s legendary Michael Jordan’s Steakhouse on the bustling streets of Michigan Avenue.

In summer 2012, Tindle took the poise and philosophies he perfected at Michael Jordan’s and fell in love with the traditional Japanese cultural beat at Roka Akor Chicago. The biggest key to Tindle’s success is that he is able to maintain the core values from his early career, despite that fact that he oversees four restaurants throughout the Chicagoland area (Roka Akor Chicago, Roka Akor Old Orchard, Enolo Wine Café, and Marigold Maison). He states,” I enjoy working in a bustling environment where everyone is enjoying the premium food and libations we provide. I still always make time to go chat with a guest about our wine list, or just about their day.” It is this genuine approach to hospitality that continues to make all the restaurants a success. Most importantly, Tindle takes pride in the service his team provides for the guests. Tindle elaborates, “When people come in, I want them to know we are one of the best in a very competitive Chicago market. It is only when you provide your guests with a superior experience and noticeable realness to the passion and knowledge of the food you serve that creates repeat visitors.”

When Tindle is not traveling between one of the four restaurants he oversees, he can be found spending time with his wife, Natalie in the Northwest suburb of Palatine, or jet setting off for his next travel adventure. His family also loves to support the IMHRO (International Mental Health Research Organization).
